BRIEF OBSERVATION ABOUT CREATIVITY & MODERN PAINTING |
|
It was recently pointed out to me, thath clinical mania might be an abyss far below depression that taps a wellspring of primitive energy, and catapults the person to hyper being, and unthinkable actions. Also I've noticed how similar the computer is to the human mind, in that when it comes up, everything appears at the same time, and connections are made in big leaps, not lineally. When I'm painting however, none of these things are on my mind. But I have noticed in the finished paintings, that they succeed in capturing a moment; a moment that seems suspended in time, and arrested, yet breathing, as if captured on the fly, in flux while balancing many elements simultaneously. Many of the images are charged with energy; and like consciousness itself, the pleasure principle. The pictures are imbedded with phallic imagery, pleasure, curiosity and desire, and the rewards along the way fuel the search for forms image and pictorial content. An exciting painting is one that remains on the ascending slope of pleasure, somehow capturing perpetually a delicious lingering moment; it neither reaches the peak, nor crosses over to the descending slope. The trick is tapping into that intense reservoir of energy,(a powerful fuel is volatile), without getting burned. This is the precipice that all humanity exists on how to control the powerful force of existence and consciousness; and whether to walk around half dead, or "too" alive; and finding the compromise. The painting "Mania" is a moment of time and complex space; but it is a playful invitation to the spectator to follow and enjoy what intense curiosity has discovered in space, line and color. This piece as well as others, seeks to free the viewer and involve then in a tropical fantasy. It is my firm conviction that our collective consciousness does not want to be burdened with academic technical manifestoes. My hope is that new art can help shed a jaded vision, brought about by too much media, and visual information that has fatigued our senses. And to refresh and help bring out the fun, curiosity, and freedom, that is the enjoyment of art. |
